Renowned board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Aaron Hofmann, is the founder of the Hofmann Arthritis Institute. Dr. Hofmann is also the Director of the new Center for Precision Joint Replacement at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center, providing specialized surgical services to patients with arthritis in the knees, hips and shoulders.
Dr. Hofmann served over 30 years at the University of Utah Department of Orthopaedics. He served as Chief of Orthopedics at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Salt Lake City for 29 years. He holds 19 patents on orthopaedic devices and is a surgeon designer for hip and knee prosthesis systems. A noted speaker, Dr. Hofmann is the recipient of numerous awards, and his writings have been published in dozens of medical journals and books.
A graduate of the University of Texas Southwestern School of Medicine, Dr. Hofmann completed his surgery internship and residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, followed by a fellowship at Montreal General Hospital. He earned a bachelor’s degree in zoology from North Dakota State University and a master’s in medicine from the University of North Dakota.
Dr. Hofmann, former Vice Chairman of International Orthopaedics at the University of Utah, founded and oversees Operation Walk Utah, a non-profit volunteer medical service organization providing hip and knee replacements to people in developing countries. He serves on the board of directors of the Great Western Region Arthritis Foundation.
Dr. Hofmann is a diplomat of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and his memberships include the Knee Society, the American Orthopaedic Association, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Orthopaedic Research Society, the Society for Arthritic Joint Surgery and the Society for Biomaterials.
